Mexican Citizenship by Descent: Connect with Your Heritage

Unlock New Opportunities with Mexican Citizenship by Descent

Are you eager to deepen your connection to your Mexican heritage while enjoying the privileges of a second passport? Mexican Citizenship by Descent (CBD) could be your gateway to new possibilities.

Unlike many countries that promote citizenship to boost their population, Mexico’s CBD program focuses on reuniting its descendants living abroad. By securing Mexican citizenship, you honor your family’s legacy while opening doors to a world of opportunities.

Imagine the freedom to travel to over 165 countries, enhanced educational and career prospects, and the ability to retain your current citizenship. Sounds appealing? Let’s explore if you qualify!

Your Journey to Mexican Citizenship

Before you begin this exciting journey, it’s essential to be informed. At GCI UNIT WORLDWIDE, we’ve helped many individuals discover their Mexican roots and reap the benefits of dual citizenship.

Concerns about age, dual citizenship, or required documentation? We provide guidance every step of the way. In Mexico, there’s no minimum age to apply; however, minor applicants will need parental support.

Gathering the necessary documents to prove your ancestry might seem daunting, but we’re here to help you collect everything you need for the Mexican CBD program.

Application Process for Mexican Citizenship by Descent

Once you’ve confirmed your eligibility, it’s time to submit your application. You have two options:

  1. Register Your Birth with the Mexican Civil Registry: The civil registry is the main authority for citizenship matters, including births, deaths, and marriages. You’ll need to register your birth and submit various documents, including:
    • Application form “Solicitud de certificado de Nacionalidad Mexicana” (DNN-1)
    • Valid passport or ID
    • Birth certificates or passports of your Mexican parents
    • Marriage certificate of your parents (if applicable)
    • Death certificate of your Mexican parent (if applicable)
    • Naturalization certificate (if applicable)
    • Proof of payment of the processing fee (approximately $188 USD)
  2. Application via the Mexican Consulate: If you’re residing outside Mexico, you can submit your application through your local Mexican consulate. If one parent has Mexican roots but lives abroad, their birth certificate can also be requested via the consulate.

Important: If your birth certificate has been digitized, you may register online. Ensure your documents are complete and valid. If your parents weren’t married, your Mexican parent must be present or represented by a power of attorney. Additionally, two adult witnesses (18+) are required, which can include consulate employees.

Application fees include approximately $27 for birth registration and $13 for issuing the birth certificate, subject to change and payable at the time of application.

Once your birth is registered and documents are submitted, you’ve taken a significant step forward!

At GCI UNIT WORLDWIDE, we’re here to assist you through the remaining stages of the process. Regardless of your situation, we are dedicated to helping you achieve Mexican citizenship. Contact us today or schedule a call to discuss your unique circumstances.
