New Regulations through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

With the decision published on 19.09.2018 in the Turkish Official Gazette, some regulations regarding the transition of foreigners to Turkish citizenship changed. The amendments included conditions for which any person who fulfills any of them is entitled to apply for Turkish citizenship:

• Buying a property worth at least 400,000 USD (previously 1 million USD) and holding it for at least three years.
• Fixed investment of not less than 500,000 USD.
• Providing job opportunities for at least 50 Turkish citizens (previously 100).
• Reducing the deposit requirement in Turkish banks from 3 million USD to 500,000 USD.

Information on the Previous Law to Grant Real Estate Citizenship

The Turkish government announced a law in 2017, allowing foreign investors to apply for Turkish citizenship under specific terms. Turkey relies heavily on the real estate sector, encouraging investment by offering numerous advantages, especially after the Foreign Ownership Act of 2012. This law allows foreigners to buy property, and under the updated regulations, investors can gain Turkish citizenship through real estate.

Main Steps for Turkish Citizenship by Investment

1. Open a Bank Account: Open an account in a Turkish bank in the name of the investor.
2. Make an Investment: Complete the required investment, such as property title deed transfer, cash deposit, or government bond purchase.
3. Residence Permit Application: Hold a valid residence permit during the citizenship application. Residence is not required during this period.
4. Turkish Citizenship Application: Once the residence permit is obtained, you can apply for Turkish citizenship.
